The Balkan Edition of the BioExcel Workshops organized as part of the Ambassador programme took place on May 21–22, 2025 in hybrid format – with attendants on-site at the Faculty of Chemistry and Pharmacy, Sofia University, Sofia, Bulgaria and online.

More than 40 participants from 10 countries enjoyed inspiring lectures from top BioExcel experts – Alexandre Bonvin, Alessandra Villa, Bert de Groot and Andrey Alekseenko – on introduction to HADDOCK, GROMACS and PMX and performance optimization of GROMACS. All lectures were followed by hands-on sessions on the Discoverer supercomputer. The event was a highlight for the local biomolecular modeling communities. We all learned a lot and enjoyed a lively atmosphere!

The workshop was organized with the support of BioExcel, Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski” (Faculty of Chemistry and Pharmacy, Faculty of Physics), the Discoverer Supercomputer, the University Babeş-Bolyai, Cluj, Romania, the University Donja Gorica, Montenegro, the University of Belgrade (Faculty of Pharmacy), Serbia and the National Competence Centres of North Macedonia, Romania, Bulgaria, Serbia, and Montenegro.
